This project was based on researching and exploring chance methodologies and applying them to a piece of design activism using research collected in locations around Detroit determined by chance.
Our initial goals for this project were to bring awareness to the state of Detroit parks as well as raising money for The Mower Gang to help bring them back to life. This will be accomplished through several fun competitions between individuals/departments and events at CCS Taubman Parking Structure 6th floor. This event will also bring the CCS community together as they interact and see what an integral part play and parks have in a community.
We began with type and color studies as well as image research. We decided on the idea of using sidewalk chalk as the basis for our event. We explored various ways to visualize our message.

We explored different possibilities for using the top floor of the parking structure as the venue for our event. We looked at different issues regarding space and safety as well as going through the proper channels at the school to obtain permission.
We began exploring different methods for drawing our visuals on the wall of the parking structure with chalk. After several investigations we developed a stencil using inspiration from our initial research about Art Chantry. We found a company selling spray chalk which worked perfectly with our stencils and tied back to the graffiti we found in several of the parks.
